The New Adventures of Dexton is a story written in diary format from the perspective of a nine-year-old boy with type 1 diabetes. In the diary, Dexton describes his feelings about his diagnosis, how to monitor his blood glucose levels, the effects of eating carbohydrates and exercising, what happens when he experiences hypoglycemia, and other events and actions related to his journey to learn about and live with diabetes.
